MACHINING DATA FOR NITRONIC®

Based on 1" Dia Annealed (RB 95) 5 hour form tool life using high-speed tools. Carbide tools are suggested, for rates better than 50% of Type 304. These rates are for carbide tools, Type C-2 for roughing, drilling and reaming. Type C-3 for finishing.

Corrosion Resistance

Armco NITRONIC 50 Stainless Steel provides outstanding corrosion resistance - superior to Types 316, 316L, 317 and 317L in many media. For many applications the 1950 F (1066 C) annealed condition provides adequate corrosion resistance and a higher strength level. In very corrosive media or where material is to be used in the as-welded condition, the 2050 F (1121 C) annealed condition should be specified. High-Strength (HS) NITRONIC 50 bars are useful for applications such as shafting and bolting, but do not quite exhibit the corrosion resistance of the annealed conditions in all environments.

Wear Resistant (Co-Cr-W)

Cobalt 6B is a cobalt based chromium, tungsten alloy for wear environments where seizing, galling and abrasion are present. 6B is resistant to seizing and galling and with its low coefficient of friction, allows sliding contact with other metals without damage by metal pick up in many cases. Seizing and galling can be minimized in applications without lubrication or where lubrication is impractical. Metal seizing is similar to one metal piece building heat against another and they become "welded" together. Galling is when these "weld" areas break off and form an abrasive debris which creates additional abrasion problems.

Manufacturing highlight: Mechanical property enhancement through the use of grain refinement

Posted by Jeff Kirchner on Feb 10, 2017 2:05:00 PM

Grain refinement

There are many applications that can benefit from grain refinement. Grain refinement is a result of specific manufacturing techniques which allow for a finer grain. In almost every case, a finer grain material will outperform a coarser grain item of the same material. The basis of finer grains being stronger is that while there are more dislocations in the material, it is more difficult to make all these dislocations line up. Finer grains also typically have less precipitates in the boundaries. Precipitates are oxides, carbon, and interstitial elements that are not in solution of the grain. Precipitates are normally not as strong as the material itself - tending to make a precipitated material more brittle.

Customer service is important. We know, we have to buy products too. We have all experienced bad customer service and we know it is to be avoided. At High Performance Alloys, the service comes before the sale, with the sale and after the sale. We are extremely proud of our customer service. Here are some of the reviews we have received from customers:
